The Salafi-mindset

25th January 2020

The Salafi-mindset is the infestation of narrow and extreme convictions; which often misses the nuances and complexity of human life and portrays Islam as a static and micro-prescribing system. Instead of being perspicacious in essence, as the complexity of human social makeup does not allow rational thoughts to have binary thinking, the Salafi-mindset reads scripture in a literalist and black and white perspective.

However, the Salafi-mindset is not exclusive to Salafis, though Salafism generally embodies and considerably represents this mindset in the modern world; it is actually prevalent in all schools of thoughts, as the Salafi-mindset is in-fact a juvenile level of thinking, that will naturally occur in any school of thought at its early stages of growth.

So, in this context, it is inevitable that the Salafi-mindset will exist within Qur’an-centric schools too. In fact, as someone who’s experienced both the Hadith-centric and Qur’an-centric theology, I find the Salafi-mindset much more vigorous in the Qur’an-centric camp; perhaps due to the fact that it had to rebegin its theological journey, and thus it is in its infancy and still growing, in comparison to the much more experienced and matured Hadith-centric camp.
